Contractor was born in Mumbai in India and grew up in Nigeria through the age of seven. She'd been exposed to a lot of travel and other cultures since a young age. She attended boarding school at the age of 7 to 9 in London. Later her family moved back home to Toronto (Canada) where they were raised for her entire life. In Toronto, Contractor excelled in academics and became a classical ballerina. She went to the Etobicoke School of the Arts. This is a specialized high school that teaches arts where she did not only learn about theater, but also dance as well. Contractor, who had been dancing for more than 10 years by the time she was and decided to concentrate on acting. After she had completed high school, she won an all-inclusive scholarship to the University of Toronto. At the University of Toronto she completed the Master of Arts in Theatre. She also double majored with Psychology and Sociology. Contractor was offered the lead role in Pericles following a brief time in University. She auditioned for the role at Stratford Shakespeare Festival (Ontario Canada) and was awarded. After two weeks of performances, she got glowing reviews. The production was recognized as the top production by Canadian critics. The actress accepted an invitation to attend Stratford's conservatory. This is a course that allows only four males and eight women are able to take an intensive 20-week course of classical theater. Contractor received a guaranteed spot for the following season and was given the role as Hermia.
